This Week's Weird News 8/5/22

A possible Bigfoot photo from a farm in Tennessee, a mysterious sphere that landed in Mexico, and a massive sinkhole that appeared in Chile's Atacama Desert were among the strange and unusual stories to cross our desk this week.

The legendary Bigfoot left an appropriately oversized mark on the news cycle this week by way of two intriguing stories featuring possible evidence for the famed creature's existence. First, a farmer in Tennessee produced a photograph of a peculiar anomaly somewhat resembling a thin figure lingering behind a fence on his property. Coupled with what he claimed were recent Sasquatch reports in the area, the man wondered if the weird 'being' might be Bigfoot. Meanwhile, a woman in Tennessee managed to record a series of eerie howls that emanated from some kind of creature lurking near her home and some have suggested that the strange sounds were Sasquatch calls.

This past week saw a particularly bizarre mystery emerge in Mexico, where a prominent meteorologist took to social media to report that a puzzling metallic sphere had plummeted from the sky and landed in the city of Veracruz. Isidro Cano Luna theorized that the object could have been debris from a Chinese rocket and implored the Mexican government to seize the odd ball before some foolhardy individual tried to do so themselves and wound up getting hurt. The weatherman later told his followers that the orb was spirited away by a team of specialists and that the tale of the weird sphere would likely be covered up for national security reasons.

Work at a mining operation in Chile was brought to a standstill this past week when an enormous sinkhole suddenly appeared overnight. The massive chasm measures a jaw-dropping 150 feet in diameter and a depth of 299 feet. Chilean authorities quickly dispatched a team of experts to investigate the sinkhole which has found to be stable, thankfully, but what created the monstrous depression remains a mystery. Fortunately, the hole formed a fair distance away from the closest town, Tierra Amarilla, so it would seem that no one was directly impacted by the event, save for the mining company which has shut down operations while the Chilean government tries to determine the cause of the chasm.
