William Chisholm Van Norman, a James Madison University professor, is scheduled to appear before a grand jury on charges related to child pornography.
During a preliminary hearing in Charlottesville Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, two of his three felony charges were certified for grand jury review. One of the charges includes Possession of Child Pornography, second offense.
The alleged crimes took place last December, and Van Norman, 68, was arrested on April 29 after the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force tipped off the Charlottesville Police Department. Following the tip in February, police obtained search warrants for his residence.
Van Norman, an associate professor of Latin American and Caribbean studies at JMU, faces one count of Possession of Child Pornography and two counts of Second or Subsequent Violation of Possession of Child Pornography.
