Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced that Virginia is sending swift water rescue teams to assist with flood recovery efforts in Texas. Two specialized teams — one from Bristol and the other from Virginia Beach — are heading to the affected areas to help local emergency crews with search and rescue operations.

The deployment begins today, July 7. Equipped with advanced rescue tools and trained to handle dangerous flood conditions, these teams will support efforts already underway in Texas communities hit hard by the recent, historic flooding.

“Our thoughts are with the families and neighborhoods in Texas facing this disaster,” said Governor Youngkin. “Virginia is ready to help in any way we can.”

This response comes after a formal request from the Texas Division of Emergency Management through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a nationwide system that allows states to share resources during major emergencies.
