Waynesboro High School's head football coach, Jamara Riashonn “Shonn” Bell, was arrested over the weekend for allegedly driving under the influence, according to the Waynesboro Police Department. Following the incident, Bell stepped down from his role as head coach.

Police records confirm that this is Bell’s first DUI charge, with a reported blood alcohol content above 0.20% — well over Virginia’s legal limit of 0.08%.

Court documents show that Bell was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Waynesboro General District Court on Tuesday, June 3, at 3 p.m.

Waynesboro Public Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Cassell confirmed Bell’s resignation on Thursday, noting it became effective Wednesday. Bell had taken on the head coach position in April 2024. The school division declined to offer additional comments.
