Rattlesnake Run Fire In Western Augusta County Finally Contained

As of Monday morning, April 21, the Rattlesnake Run wildfire in Augusta County has been fully contained. The fire scorched 294 acres in total but never posed a threat to any homes, buildings, or private property, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Crews have made strong progress in managing the fire. Around 30 personnel remain on site, supported by helicopters, fire engines, and a bulldozer to maintain control.

The fire originally broke out near Forest Service Road 96 by the Wild Oak Trail in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. It was first reported at 200 acres in size Sunday evening. Firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service and the Virginia Department of Forestry responded quickly. Although no structures were in danger, smoke from the blaze was visible from nearby towns and even Franklin, West Virginia.
