Green County responds to investigates animal abuse

Greene County Sheriff’s Office received several telephone calls from the public in reference to the condition and living condition of 3 horses located in the Stanardsville area of the county. Greene County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control division opened an investigation that resulted in the seizure of these horses.

On September 18, 2020 the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control division along with a state licensed veterinarian went to the location and executed a search warrant. The state licensed veterinarian determined that the 3 horses were in critical shape and needed immediate veterinarian care.

Greene County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control contacted Hopes Legacy Equine Rescue who responded to the location and removed the 3 horses. While the horses are in their care, they are receiving the veterinarian care that they needed and continue to improve daily.

Two of the horses were owned by Eric Michael Pugh and the other horse was owned by Donald Wayne Roach. Charges are still pending the investigation.
