Airport Worker Without Pilot's License Took Plane On Joyride Over DC: Feds

Shannon Airport

A Virginia man has been charged by federal authorities for allegedly taking an airplane on a joyride over suburban Washington D.C. in 2018. Authorities said that Ryan Guy Parker took a plane from Shannon Airport in Fredericksburg and flew over the nation's capital, creating a "significant risk of injury and death" to himself and the public.

As Parker tried to land, he nearly crashed the plane.

"Parker bounced the airplane on landing and spun out," U.S. Department of Transportation Special Agent Bret Stolle wrote in an affidavit.

Witnesses told federal investigators that the weather was poor that day and low visibility "made conditions too unsafe" to fly.

Parker had access to the airport through his job, running Outlaw Aviation, an airplane washing business.

According to NBC News, officials believe that Parker flew at least one other unauthorized flight out of another airport in Fredericksburg, but he is only being charged in connection with the flight out of Shannon Airport.
