A mischievous kitten is being blamed for an unexpected flood that temporarily shut down a cat café in Virginia.

The incident occurred at The Purrfect Bean, where a five-month-old tuxedo cat named Roller managed to turn a bathroom sink into a waterfall. Owner Michelle Langham said the flooding happened overnight while the café was closed.

Staff believe Roller climbed into the sink, turned on the faucet, and inadvertently blocked the drain with a towel left in the bathroom. With nowhere for the water to go, it overflowed, flooded the upper level, and eventually poured down into the café space below.

While the other cats scrambled to higher ground to stay dry, Roller appeared unbothered — and was later found happily splashing in the water by a volunteer.

The flooding caused significant damage to parts of the café, which only opened in mid-August. Sections of flooring and walls had to be removed, though the owners hope repairs will allow the business to reopen before the new year.

The Purrfect Bean is Richmond’s only cat café, offering customers the chance to spend time with adoptable cats in a home-like setting that helps free up space in foster homes. During the closure, all cats — including Roller — have been placed with foster families.

To stay afloat financially, the café has launched fundraisers, accepted donations, and even created T-shirts featuring Roller’s “mugshot.” Langham said the outpouring of community support has been overwhelming and deeply appreciated.

As for Roller, the water-loving kitten is still available for adoption — though future homes may want to keep a close eye on their faucets.
