From the Staunton Fire and Rescue FB Page: Staunton Fire and Rescue...was dispatched Thursday morning around 6:45 AM for a structure fire at the corner of E Frederick St and N August St, the Rask Florist building. Engine 1 arrived to find heavy smoke showing. Crews entered the building to attack the fire. Crews were met with heavy fire inside and fought to extinguish the fire for approximately 40 minutes. A 2nd alarm was requested for manpower. Units from Staunton, Augusta County Fire-Rescue (Station 10 and 11), Verona Vol. Fire Co. and Swoope Vol. Fire Co. responded to the scene. Churchville Vol. Fire Co. and another Verona unit covered the empty city stations. Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad was on scene for medical standby.
There were no injuries but the building has suffered extensive damage. The cause is under investigation by our Fire Marshal's Office.
