(NEWSER) – In the few weeks since July 29, the ALS Association has gotten more than $15 million in donations.

Over the same period last year, that figure was around $1.7 million, the New York Times reports. The big difference, of course, is the "Ice Bucket Challenge," which calls on people to donate $100 to ALS or dump a bucket of freezing cold water on their heads.

Some 1.2 million people have posted videos of themselves doing so on Facebook this summer, the Times reports; many of those who pour the water also donate.
